WA - 2024

Auger In Timber Sale (WA DNR)

The "Auger In" timber sale is located in the headwaters of the Chehalis River and is scheduled for auction in March 2025. Unit 2 of this timber sale contains hundreds of old growth hemlock trees and is for all intents and purposes an old growth forest, in a region that has almost none. This sale is likely Marbled Murrelet habitat. DNR is required to do an old growth assessment of this forest before auctioning it, and if we are lucky unit two will be dropped from the timber sale. That being said, this timber sale is located in the Pacific Cascade region of the DNR which regularly logs small sections of old growth and may log a big section like this one given that it was selectively logged in the past.

"Shift The Paradigm" Timber Sale (WADNR)

The "Shift The Paradigm" timber sale which is scheduled for auction in November 2024 targets some of the best remaining legacy forests in the Willapa River watershed, this watershed has just 0.2% of its original old growth forest remaining, and only 2.1% of the watershed contains legacy forests. The forest contained within unit one of his timber sale contains a dominant cohort of trees that are over 200 feet tall. This forest is easily one of the best and only opportunities to regain old growth forest across any part of this watershed. It is a top conservation priority.

Suzie Q Timber Sale (WADNR)

The Suzie Q Timber Sale which is scheduled for auction in the beginning of 2025 contains an intact 10+/- acre stand of old growth, one of the only stands of old growth remaining in South Western Washington. This timber sale is located in Grays Harbor County and revenue generated from it would go towards Evergreen State college among other beneficiaries.

Maladjusted Timber Sale (WADNR)

The Maladjusted Timber Sale in Jefferson County contains a perplexing mix of massive legacy trees, sections of legacy forest as well as sections of forest appearing to be plantations that date back to the 1930s, it is certainly a prime candidate for conservation and restoration and it's much more diverse than most forests. This forest used to be part of the "Anderson Adjusted" timber sale, part of that timber sale was canceled but this unit has been re-branded and is now scheduled for auction in the end of 2024.

The Jackie Paper Timber Sale located above the Chehalis River in Grays Harbor County is one of the most spectacular, and part of the largest unprotected legacy forests in Grays Harbor County. The sale is directly adjacent to a Marbled Murrelet habitat area and is very likely Marbled Murrelet habitat. The sale contains trees up to 5 feet thick and is easily among the best legacy forests remaining on DNR managed lands.
