The Evergreen Gold timber sale, scheduled for auction in the end of 2024 would log some of the best only remaining legacy forests in southern Capitol State Forest. The sale is located in Thurston Counties and contains trees over 100 years old.

Parched Timber Sale (WA DNR)

The Parched Timber Sale, scheduled for auction at the end of 2024 targets a high-elevation primary forest, on a mountaintop above the Elwha River dam site. This forest originated after a fire in 1880 and has never been logged before. Unit 3A of this forest contains Whipplea modesta, which is a critically imperiled plant in the State of Washington

Mild Bill Timber Sale (WA DNR)

The Mild Bill timber sale which is scheduled for 2027 with log so if the only remaining legacy forests in southern Capitol State Forest. The sale is located in Thurston and Grays Harbor Counties and contains trees over 100 years old.

Mass Timber Sale (WA DNR)

The Mass timber sale in Capital State Forest is located at the Fall Creek Campground, the forest is about 80-120 years old and is scheduled for auction in 2027. All mature forests should be protected.

Unit 4 of the LIzard Lounge timber sale in Capital State Forest is located above Mima Falls, the forest is over 100 years old and contains a small growth of old growth. The sale is scheduled for 2027. All mature forests should be protected.

Papaya Timber Sale (WA DNR)

The Papaya (formerly Sunny) timber sale in Capitol State Forest is scheduled to be auctioned off in 2026. U6 and U7 are located immediately adjacent to the Chameleon timber sale which was the side of a tree set in 2020. This beautiful forest is 120 years old and given time will become old growth.

Carrot Timber Sale (WADNR)

The Carrot Timber Sale was approved for auction in January 2024 over the objections of Thurston County commissioners. The board of natural resources was split over the decision. The sale is located above Cedar Creek in Capitol State Forest and contains structurally complex old forests. All mature forests should be protected.

Caramel Timber Sale (WADNR)

The Caramel Timber Sale is scheduled for auction in 2027, and contains structurally complex old forests. It is located on the eastern side of Capitol State Forest in Thurston County, where the commissioners have asked that all mature forests be protected.

Hang About Timber Sale (WADNR)

The “Hang About" timber sale targets monumental legacy forests that were originally set to be auctioned as part of the Buttercup timber sale in early 2023, now this timber sale is scheduled to be auctioned in 2028. it's located near Highway 8 in Capitol State Forest.

Chai Timber Sale (WA DNR)

The Chai Timber Sale located in Thurston County targets one of Capitol State Forest's best remaining legacy forests in Unit 3 of the sale. This forest is essentially emergent old growth, it contains second growth Douglas Fir trees up to 75 inches in diameter, as well as Red Cedar trees up to 58 inches in diameter and Grand Fir trees up to 56 inches in diameter. A particular note in this forest is the abundance of Grand Fir, this tree species is not very commercially viable and is absent from most of Western Washington. This forest is truly one of Thurston Counties best, it is scheduled to be auctioned in November 2024.

The Marshmallow Timber Sale in Thurston County contains a small amount of legacy forest, which is set to be auctiond at the end of 2023.

Matador Timber Sale (WA DNR)

The Matador Timber Sale in Thurston County is a Legacy Forest up for logging on Washington State Department of Natural Resource Trust Lands. The forest re-generated from logging in the early 1900s and is now around 100 years old. It, and all other legacy forests like it deserve protection, to get involved visit wlfdc.org

This sale is scheduled for auction in 2025.

Starwagon Timber Sale (WA DNR)

The Starwagon Timber Sale is scheduled for the end of 2024, this forest dates back to 1917 and is one of the oldest forests near Summit lake, in Thurston County. The county commissioners have asked the department of natural resources to stop auctioning off legacy forests, the DNR has ignored them.
